A plain-language look at why provenance matters — for the artists you buy from and the games you run.
When we say everything on the Codex is rights-clean, we mean every piece is made by a named human artist who holds the copyright and chose to list it. There's no scraped training data laundered into a thumbnail, and no mystery about where an image came from.
That matters for artists first. Credit and payment only work if provenance is real — you can't fairly split a sale with a person the platform can't name. It also matters for buyers: a clear chain of rights is what lets you licence a piece for a stream or a published module without nasty surprises later.
Practically, it changes what you're buying. A rights-clean commission is a relationship, not a slot-machine pull. You can ask for revisions, clarify the licence, and come back to the same artist for the next piece in the set.
None of this is anti-tool. Artists here use whatever helps them draft and iterate. The line we hold is simple: a human made the work, a human is credited, and a human gets paid.
